2008 Season-records, regrets, and promise.

Posted Saturday, November 29, 2008 by Fords fan1
The 2008 Fords had a year that resembled the roller coaster ride that the stock market has taken of late. Employing a spread offense for the first time, the Fords started the year with some huge margin victories over Chichester and Harriton. However, in what some consider the most exciting game of the year, the Fords dropped an overtime game to Penncrest on a two point conversion.  Haverford threw in a big victory at Marple. However, a four game skid then included losses to Haven, a bold yet short effort at Garnet Valley, a loss to Conestoga, and a dissapointing home loss to Sprinfield.  The Fords bounced back with a big road win at Radnor, a home victory against Lower Merion, and a road win at Sun Valley. Thanksgiving Day ended the winning roll, as the Fords dropped the Turkey day extravaganza to Upper Darby, 17-10.  Senior Dante Pergolese set the school single season rushing record, running behind an often times dominant offensive line.

The Haverford future appears bright. With a year of experience in the offense throughout the system,(freshman, junior varsity, and varsity) next years returning players will be well prepared coming into the season. Although the offensive line will be looking to fill three spots vacated by seniors, there is a plethora of skill players returning who saw significant time this year. The Central League will provide plenty of challenges, as the quality of play within the league appears to be deepening. The days of a two or three team race are over.
The off-season will require a higher level of dedication to remain competative or to challenge for the league title. Let the lifting begin.......
